Perforated House

Have you seen anything like this house facade before?

It known as the perforated house and its located in a suburban street in Melbourne.

The idea is the pattern on the facade is based on the other houses on the street.

It’s called a perforated house because the appearance isn’t created using paint.

It’s achieved by drilling thousands of tiny holes in the aluminium plates which make up the facade.

Do you think it works?……I’m not so sure!

Architectural Bridge – Fail

It’s not a new house but it is architecture and my wife or I used it every day for several years.

It’s the footbridge at Footscray Railway Station.

Looks fairly impressive and very modern with its round shape………….So why is it a Fail?

Well you would think that one of the main purposes of this bridge, with a roof, would be to keep you dry as you walk across it on rainy days.

This is where it fails, most of those transparent panels you can see in the roof are in fact steel plates with lots of holes drilled in them.

Consequently when it rains you get as wet walking across the bridge, as if there was no roof!

Not only that but these panels are over the stainless steel handrails on the stairs.

If you stumble on the stairs its no use relying on grabbing the rail as with the water streaming down them they are as slippy as ice!

A triumph of architecture over practicality!       A truly Epic Fail!

Battleship House

A house that looks like a battle ship!

Is it someone who is absolutely paranoid about burglars?

I have also seen it described as a zombie proof house.

Basically the entire front of the house is covered in steel plate including the front door and the window.

The only light that gets in the front is that slight crack in front of that piece of steel that you can see leaning forward.

The house is known as the Law Street House in South Melbourne, and can you believe that it was put forward for an architectural award!

It actually looks OK once you get past the first impression.

Timeless Design

How old do you think this house is?

What do you think 2 years, 5 years, or even 10 years old.

It looks fairly modern with the ground floor brick and the upper floor a contrasting material. those wide eves look impressive and give good solar shade

Well this is known as the Susan Lawrence Dana House, in Springfield, Illinois.

It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright who was famous for the ‘Praire House’ style.

Thanks toFrank Lloyd Wright Tours for the photo. (Going on one of their tours is on my Bucket List!)

And the house? . . . . . It was completed in 1904, so it’s more than 100 years old.

Do you know any other timeless designs?
